Shopping benefits UNCW Raise money for UNCW at Harris Teeter UNC Wilmington is the i pilot college for the Harris i Teeter, Inc.’s “Together in Education” program. “Together in Education”, a tund-raising system that has proved to be successful in the past, enables stu dents, family and friends to direct a portion of the pro ceeds on Harris Teeter products to their school. In the last three years, Harris Teeter has helped elemen tary, junior high and high schools in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia raise more than $3 million. UNCW students can link their Harris Teeter Vic card to UNCW by giving a Harris Teeter cashier the UNCW account code 5034. Students can alsD link their friends and relatives to the •account. After the initial link, students will remain connected to the UNCW account for a year and percent of Harris Teeter store brand purchases will go directly the UNCW account. “Education is a top pri ority for Harris Teeter, and education is something we can do for the community,” Harris Teeter president Fred J. Morganthall II said at news conference held on campus Monday. Morganthall also gave a special donation of $10,000 on behalf of Harris Teeter to the North Carolina Legacy Hall, a MOLLY HANDLER Staff wrjter Recently the Wilmington City Council started a crackdown on the illegal sale of alcohol down town. Both the alcohol buyer and seller are affected. As part of the plan, a one-year moratorium was imposed on the opening of bars and clubs down town. For one yev there will be club that serves alcohol. The City Council passed this reso lution request ing that the ABC Commission not issue any alco hol permits in the main busi ness area for one year. membership can be issued. The clubs must keep a written list of all members on hand at all times. Proof of membership must be shown each time the person enters the club.
